Rita Moreno will open season
DECATUR -The only woman with an Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy on her mantle will perform with the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 25.
Rita Moreno will open the 1993-94 season with “Moreno, Marvin, Machines and More,” which will include music from Jerome Kern’s “Show Boat,” Marvin Hamlisch’s “They’re Playing My Song” and Johann Strauss’ “Tales From the Vienna Woods Waltz.”
Season tickets are $30 for adults, $24 for students at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center box office, 424-6318. Tickets for the Moreno concert are $18, also at the box office.
Also scheduled for the 1993-94 season for the symphony, conducted by A. Wesley Tower.
Dale Clevenger, principal French horn player with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, with the premiere of a piece written by Tower; Nov. 14; $11.
Young Artists Concert, featuring contra bassist Glenn Dewey; Feb. 13; $7.
Handel’s “Messiah,” with guest conductor Bradley Holmes; March 13; $8.
“With a Song in My Heart: A Rogers and Hart Gala,” featuring the music of the composers of “Pal Joey,” Babes in Arms” and “On Your Toes;” May 7-8; $14.
