Voci Dance presents the colorful fun of "Paint Chips" (there's a kids' version, too)
WHAT: Voci Dance is taking another colorful trip to the 1960s as it revives "Paint Chips," its most recent Orlando Fringe Festival hit.
Ken Nordine's tribute to color, combining smooth jazz and hypnotic spoken-word vocals, provides the groovy soundtrack to "Paint Chips." Nordine's 1968 album "Colors" imbues various hues with personalities — purple is fierce; blue feels, well, a little blue. Then, the Voci dancers bring those personalities to life through movement.
In the cast: Adrienne Nichols, Lisa Mie, Rokaya Mikhailenko, Katherine Fabian, Larissa Humiston and special guests. Artistic director Genevieve Bernard choreographed the pieces.
Dana Mott's clever projections bring even more color to the dances, which range from emotional to whimsical.
To get into the 1960s vibe, DJ Nigel will spin tunes of the time a half hour before each show. Beer, wine and snacks will be available.
WHERE: The Orange Studio, 1121 N. Mills Ave., Orlando
WHEN: DJ Nigel's chill lounge begins at 7:30 p.m., main show at 8 p.m. next Friday-Sunday, Sept. 16-18
COST: $20 advance, $25 at door
WHAT ELSE: "Voci Dance: 'Finger' Paint Chips," a special all-ages program, will feature art activities, colorful treats and extra kid appeal in the main show. The activities begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, with the show at 2. Tickets are $20, $5 for children.
