Trollops, Tyrants, and Tarts (Oh My!) - stories and songs from a checkered career and life. Natalie Doliner takes you through one dorky soprano’s cheerful journey through the trampy, trashy, alto-belty, and sometimes naked-y life she has been surprised to find herself living on and off the wicked stage.

Natalie is joined by a few surprise guests and the Cabaret is directed by Jay Hopkins (director of 6 Guitars, Nashville Hurricane and Well, Since You Asked) with musical direction by Timothy D. Turner and piano accompaniment by John DeHaas.

offerings in downtown Orlando, The Abbey has been cleverly conceived as the ideal mixed-use venue to deliver exciting and diverse live entertainment options on a nightly basis. Situated on the ground floor of the Sanctuary high rise, The Abbey presents everything from concerts and community theater to comedians and cabaret acts.

Perspective: Theatre vs. Film

Perspective: Theatre

Picture
When I study a new script for a theatrical production, my thoughts are driven in three directions.  I enjoy sitting on the empty stage... imagining.
  1. What do I imagine this world looks like from an audience point of view? Begin seeing images for a set evolving.
  2. What do I imagine the actors engage in this world?  Begin understanding what characters see, hear and understand in relationships.
  3. How do the actors engage with the set? How does this world function for and with the actors on stage? Begin renderings and stage design concepts.

Perspective: Film

Picture
When I consider my view as a filmmaker or photographer, my thoughts are driven in three different directions.
  1. What does my eye see? Why is this point of view important to my eye? Begin understanding context and counterpoint.
  2. What is the character's point of view? Begin understanding motivation and consciousness.
  3. When does my view conflict with a character's point of view? Begin thinking about interactive context between my eye and the reactive context of an individual character or subject.

Breaking the Fourth Wall

When an actor breaks the fourth wall in a theatrical production, an invitation as been offered and then in turn accepted by an audience. For just a moment, time stands still in the world created on stage.  The stillness granted... the time lapse offered... is a private moment between the actor and the audience.

Don't take too much time that the world onstage is left behind.  For that moment, actors you are an aside from the theatrical world.  Living for a moment in the world of your audience.  Don't lose your way back to the rich world created on the stage and your audience will trust your journey.  Take too much time with your audience and your contract is broken.  The stillness becomes a sever... the moment becomes eternity... the time lapse is infinite.

A Winter's Gift

By Michelle R. Davis and David Ward
directed by Timothy D. Turner

December 10-12, 2015

Troubled times have befallen Canterbury — the king is absent, the queen is greedy and the people are hungry.  To make matters worse, Vikings have been spotted.  As Abbot Gregory ponders a potentially calamitous Christmas, news of a winter’s gift arrives — monks have found a chest of gold, soon to be delivered to their abbey.   In a convergence of playful, convoluted paths, disguises fall, truths are revealed and a winter’s gift is given just in time for the most celebrated night of all!
